An open photographic competition is being launched to promote tourism in the North Isle of Axholme. The area to the north of the M180 encompasses the towns and villages of Crowle & Ealand, Luddington, Eastoft, Keadby, Althorpe, Amcotts & Garthorpe. It is an area often overlooked by tourists but contains a wealth of heritage and natural interest to the visitor and local alike, including;

Crowle Moors – which as part of the Humberhead Peatlands NNR is the largest area of raised bog wilderness in lowland Britain and where one might see Nightjars, Marsh Harriers and numerous rare insects and plants.

Crowle Church and Stone – the church one of the oldest in the Isle of Axholme contains the Crowle Stone, a rare Saxon Cross shaft with a runic inscription possibly dating to the 8th or 9th century.

The theme of the photographic competition is to illustrate what element of the North Isle of Axholme that has inspired you or might inspire visitors to explore this interesting area of North Lincolnshire, be it animal, vegetable or mineral.

The competition will be divided into age classes and is open to all. The closing date for the competition is 31st May 2010. Full information including details of how to enter may be found at www.crowle.org/photocomp. The winners will be announced at the 113th Crowle Show in June.

This will be achieved by working with existing local groups and organisations and implementing the projects through sub-groups, identifying where funding opportunities may may exist.

However where a project would benefit from including partners from a wider geographical area then the geographic area would be widened.

The partnership is drawn from individuals, representatives of local groups and the business community.

North Isle Partnership Tourism Group
The tourism group was formed a sub-group to the North Isle Partnership and is tasked with developing a plan to attract tourism to this often over looked area of North Lincolnshire.
