Interesting to see photos of old Crowle, which I visited often from 1950s - 1990s to see family members - Key family, My grandfather Alf Key (b.1866) ran the ironmongers business (now Chafors) for many years and had 12 children. I met him on several occasions as a small child.

Just to say I have found the Waterhouse/Ball family I have been looking for - can't work out how to put a reply onto the relevant forum !

It turns out that William Waterhouse's mother was widowed and re-married James Ball when William was only 5. William took the name of Ball throughout his childhood only going back to Waterhouse for his marriage and the registration of his children! The rest of the time, ie for census purposes, the family took the name of Ball.
Confused - yes so was I !

But thanks for allowing me to post my request for help. I hope to visit Crowle one day to see what it is like for myself.
Many thanks,
Kate

In Medieval Times, in addition to a weekly Market, Crowle had two Charter Fairs. Should Crowle hold a fair on one of these traditional dates?
